On 4th May 1945. Clostermann had named his fighter 'Le Grand Charles' which is a play on the Vieux Charles name on fighter flown by Capitaine Georges Guynemer (54) in world War One. The Tempest had a White Lorraine Cross on the nose and the Winged Griffin badge of No.3 Squadron on the tail.
