Ethiopia has received also a small batch of MiG-21Rs. The date of their arrival is unknown, but it is possible that some of the MiG-21s that operated over Somalia time and again in the 1980s were not there on strike-sorties but flying reconnaissance. This example survived the ordeal of the Ogaden and the long war with Eritrea, and was captured at Asmara, in 1991. Its eventual fate is unknown; it is not very likely, however, that it was returned to Ethiopia and made flyable again.
