Fiat Army Type I Heavy Bomber 'Ruth' (Fiat BR.20) of 12 Sentai, 1 Chutai, in China in 1938-1939. This unit marked each of its aircraft with an individual Каna character (here 'hi'). Each of the three chutai had ten characters for use and this perpetuated their earlier use of characters as a general unit designator on their previous equipment, the Mitsubishi Ki-1. The Fiats were purchased to compensate for the operational deficiencies of the Ki-1. The first 75 aircraft to be delivered were painted in the standard Italian colours of Verde Mimetico (green), Giallo Mimetico (ochre) and Bruno Mimetico (brown), with aluminium undersides.
