NAS Miramar, California - nicknamed 'Fightertown USA' - was home for this F-8J (formerly F-8E). It was assigned to Light Photographic Squadron Sixty Three (VFP-63) 'Eyes of the Fleet' during the 1970s. This Squadron took responsibility for training Reserve F-8 and RF-8 pilots after F-8s were phased out of fleet squadrons. This situation resulted in Crusader fighter variants flying with reconnaissance squadrons.
