During deck trials in February 1946 with CV-38 USS Shangri La this aircraft piloted by Chuck O'Malley and crashed probably on February 9th, 1946 while landed. The F7F slid up the deck coming to rest upside down. Pilot successfully saved. Operations were suspended and a thorough inspection of all aircraft revealed evidence of structural damage to engine mounts, wing spars and landing gear. However, the aircraft were considered safe for a flight back to El Centro.
