Gela (Caltanissetta), Sicily, summer 1942. This was Capitano Giuseppe Cenni's plane; his rank pennant on the wheel spat and the red propeller spinner identified the pilot of this aircraft as being a Squadriglia CO. Cenni was a veteran among the pilots of Italian Ju 87s and, in 1941 against shipping in the Aegean Sea, perfected the original method of delivering his bombs by 'ricochet'. Once the bomb was dropped horizontally after a low altitude dive, it bounced under its own momentum off the surface of the sea, eventually hitting the side of the target ship. (Camouflage: RLM71 Dunkelgrun upper surfaces with RLM65 Hellblau under-sides).
