Lonate Pozzolo (Varese), 1941. Initially, the Picchiatello pilots underwent conversion training at the Graz-Thalerhof Stukaschule 2 in Austria. The Italian students greatly appreciated the characteristics of their new mounts in terms of performance, especially after their grim experience with the SM.85. In early 1941, the Nucleo Addestramento Tiro a Tuffo - NATAF [Dive Bom-bing Training Unit] was created at Lonate Pozzolo in Northern Italy to provide the Regia Aeronautica with the specialized dive bombing training the Stuka required. Note the un-usually wide white fuselage band and the unequal span tail cross of this Ju 87B-2. (Camouflage: RLM70 Schwarzgrun / RLM71 Dunkelgrun upper surfaces with RLM65 Hellblau undersides).
